Bulk Trash / Junk Removal
Portland has no city bulk-trash crew, residents' privately franchised garbage company picks up oversized items curbside only when called ahead and paid, at rates the City regulates; renters must go through their landlord, and hazardous waste goes to a Metro transfer station instead.
Your garbage company can pick up oversized items right from the curb, at rates set by the City. Contact your garbage company to get a cost estimate and pick-up date for appliances, furniture, large branches, stumps, and other big items that don't fit in your garbage bin.
Sewer Lateral
Portland is unusually owner-friendly: the city maintains the lateral from the main all the way to the street-side curb face; the owner only covers curb-to-building.
Those portions of a lateral not addressed by Subsections 17.32.070 B.1.a. through d. are the responsibility of the property owner receiving service through the lateral

Sidewalk Repair
Portland: it's written into the City Charter itself. Abutting owners build and maintain the sidewalk, or the city does it and bills them.
It is the duty of all owners of land abutting any street in the City to construct, reconstruct and maintain in good repair the adjoining sidewalks.

Street Tree / Parkway
Portland puts full maintenance duty and cost for street/planting-strip trees on the adjacent property owner, including paying for curb or sidewalk repair caused by their tree.
It is the duty of every owner of property to maintain trees located on the property or on the adjacent street planting area in accordance with this Section. Further, the owner must be responsible for all costs associated with such maintenance, removal and any tree replacement, if required.
