Gas Service Line

In most states, except Kansas, you are responsible for any natural gas piping on your property from our gas meter to your home or business. Atmos Energy does not maintain the natural gas lines on your property beyond our meter.

Sewer Lateral

Dallas: the city's duty stops at your property line by its own code; the building lateral on your side is yours.

The city is responsible for maintenance of a service connection from the main to the meter, or from the main to the property line where the connection is unmetered, in the case of water service and from the main to the property line in the case of wastewater service.

Tree Roots

Dallas: the abutting owner must repair a defective sidewalk at the owner's expense, and Ch. 48 on trees does not shift that bill.

When a sidewalk, driveway, or any appurtenance to a sidewalk or driveway becomes defective, unsafe, or hazardous, the abutting property owner shall reconstruct or repair the sidewalk, driveway, or appurtenance, and the expense of such work must be borne by the abutting property owner.

Water Service Line

Dallas: the private service line from the meter is yours, "property owners are responsible for maintaining the private portion of the service line... coming from the meter."
