# Louisville: Who Pays for the Water Service Line? | Who Pays the Repair?

**Who pays:** shared

Louisville Water Company owns the meter and service line up to the customer's property service connection; the customer owns the private service line from there to the premises.

**Boundary:** Louisville Water Company owns and maintains the meter, meter vault, and service line from the main up to and including the meter/tailpiece at the customer's property service connection; the customer owns and maintains the private service line from that connection to the premises.

**Exceptions:** Lead or galvanized customer lines: replaced free by Louisville Water up to the shut-off valve under its customer service line replacement program.
