**Boundary:** Jersey City Code § 296-1.13 places responsibility for maintaining and replacing sidewalks and curbs in safe condition, free of trip hazards from tree roots, cracked concrete or subsurface shifting, on the abutting property owner. Owners/occupants must also clear snow and ice within 8 hours (§ 296-1.3).

**Property owner:** Maintain and replace the abutting sidewalk and curb, including trip hazards from tree roots or shifting (§ 296-1.13); clear snow/ice to a 48-inch path within 8 hours of snowfall ending, residential (§ 296-1.3).

**City / agency:** On owner default the City may remove snow after 12 daylight hours and lien the cost (§ 296-1.8).

**Exceptions:** The City sometimes improves sidewalks as part of larger corridor projects.
