# Does San Diego Pick Up Bulk Trash? Who Pays & What's Excluded | Who Pays the Repair?

> No. San Diego dropped its planned bulky-item pickup in a June 2026 fee change. The City points residents to WasteFreeSD and a free mattress drop-off site.

**Who pays:** owner

San Diego's Environmental Services Department lists only regular refuse, container, and dead-animal collection services on its official Collection Services page, there is no routine residential bulky-item curbside pickup, so bulky items are the resident's responsibility to haul or arrange separately.

**Boundary:** The City of San Diego does not run a bulky-item curbside pickup. A bulky pickup was planned as a service enhancement, but the City Council's June 2026 fee change removed the funding for it. City-serviced residents are pointed to the WasteFreeSD directory for bulky items and appliances, and to the City's free mattress collection site.

**Exceptions:** Mattresses and box springs: free drop-off at the City Mattress Collection Site
